Flowering Dogwood: Pink and Greenish Spring Branches
Newsletter dated April 15, 2019
Flowering dogwood was a mid-spring specialty in this April 2019 update, with mostly pink and some greenish branches emerging from the harvest.
Color may not be clear in a tight bud
The farm noted that it could not always determine the final color before stems opened. That is useful context when selecting dogwood for an exact palette or event.
A spring collection beyond dogwood
Popcorn viburnum, lunaria, mood moss, cherry and other branches accompanied the feature. The grower looked ahead to lunaria pods later in summer and fall, separating future crops from that week’s cuts.
Building with materials from the farm
The newsletter documented timber-frame barn construction using wood from the family forest and stone gathered from the creek bed. It ties the crop update to the landscape and work around it.
