Chinese New Year Branch Preview: Forsythia, Quince and Magnolia

Newsletter dated December 20, 2018

This December 2018 preview looked ahead to the 2019 branch season, bringing together forsythia, quince, double quince, magnolia and pussy willow.

A planned sequence of availability

The original email had pussy willow and magnolia first, with forsythia and quince following. Those dated forecasts belong to that winter; a new program needs confirmation against the present harvest.

A practical color observation

Early-forced quince could be very pale, with richer salmon color closer to its natural bloom period. The archived crop gallery included white and double-flowering quince as well as salmon forms.

Later spring possibilities

White and pink cherry, pieris, yellow and dark magnolia, flowering dogwood and spirea extended the preview. Apricot and plum were explicitly dependent on securing a source, so they were not firm inventory promises.
