Antique Hydrangeas: An October Color & Size Update
Newsletter dated October 9, 2022
Burgundy, antique blue, smoky purple and antique white hydrangeas featured in this October update, with a closer look at the farm’s large antique blooms.
A range of antique colors
The article described the farm’s antique hydrangea selection in several shades, including burgundy, blue, smoky purple and white. The original newsletter called this the jewel-antique portion of the season. Color names describe a range of naturally aged blooms rather than identical stems.
A historical jumbo-green example
The 2022 newsletter highlighted jumbo antique-green heads measuring about 10 inches across, packed three stems per bunch. That is a useful example of why head size and bunch count should be specified together; it is not a guarantee that current grades have those measurements or packing.
From flower field to farm landscape
A photograph of the small barn and pumpkin patch placed the flowers beside the Tillamook State Forest. The same mailing pictured ninebark, dogwood, snowberries and gloriosa grown on wires. Refer to the current hydrangea guide and fresh list to build a new seasonal palette.
