Dried Lunaria: Silver-Dollar Stems for Fall & Winter

Newsletter dated October 6, 2022

Lunaria’s silver-dollar seedpods make it a distinctive dried material for fall and winter floral work. This archive explains an important cleaned-versus-uncleaned distinction.

The silver-dollar flower

The farm’s October article described dried lunaria as a fall-to-winter offering. Its coinlike pods give the plant its familiar silver-dollar name. The source gallery also connected the dried stems with photographs of the living crop in bloom.

Know the finish being ordered

In the accompanying 2022 mailing, the farm had not yet had time to clean that harvest and was selling uncleaned lunaria only. This distinction affects the finished appearance and preparation work. Ask whether a current offer is cleaned or uncleaned rather than assuming every dried-lunaria listing has the same finish.

A moment in the farm’s development

The newsletter recorded completion of the Big Barn and the rock-wall/pizza-oven area beside its dance floor. Antique hydrangeas, hops, ninebark and snowberries accompanied that farm update. Old availability statements and the remaining hop-season window applied to the original mailing only.
