Cutting Limelight with Nina: Our August 2021 Hydrangea Season
Newsletter dated August 18, 2021
Nina reflects on her first summer picking flowers, learning to prepare antique hydrangeas, and cutting Limelight with Patrick in this 2021 farm story.

A first summer in the harvest rows
Patrick introduced a photograph of himself and Nina cutting Limelight hydrangeas during her first summer working in the flower harvest. Nina wrote that, although she had lived on the farm for eighteen years, daily flower picking was a new experience.
Learning the antique-hydrangea stage
Nina described moving from fresh flowers to antique flowers as the season progressed. She and a coworker spent time in the shade removing damaged petals and preparing the antique heads. It required more patience than the earlier cut-and-bunch rhythm.
Every week brought a different crop
The update noted that coffee bean, viburnum and montbretia production was ending for that summer while the farm’s colors moved toward fall. Limelight, other hydrangeas and forest materials filled the historical list. Current availability remains the source for today’s harvest.
